Korea

This section is all about South Korea. Whichever aspect of South Korea appeals to you it is probably covered here. From the streets of Seoul to the beaches on the East Coast, I cover every location I visit.

Must Visit Fall Parks in Seoul

World Cup Stadium(월드컵공원) is a well-known location in Seoul due to its large variety of beautiful gardens. Most famously known for Haneul Park, there is a lot more to World Cup Stadium than just Haneul. The area itself is very large, and you can easily spend a whole afternoon or evening there if you want to enjoy all of the gardens different sights and attractions. This week I had the chance to visit another of the five gardens located at World Cup Stadium – Pyeonghwa Park (평화공원). Together with Haneul Park, Nanji Stream Park, Nanji Han River Park, and Sunset Park, these five gardens take up a large area of…

Why You Shouldn’t Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung is the most famous palace in Korea and the most visited by visitors to Korea. However, this is exactly why you it might not be the best palace for you. Before I begin I want to say that I am by no means against visiting Gyeongbokgung. In fact, I think that everyone coming to Korea should visit at least one palace while they are here. In saying that though, I don’t believe that Gyeongbokgung is always the best choice of palace to visit. There are many palaces in Seoul (and Korea), and mostly they are completely overlooked by visitors. In this article I only talk about Changdeokgung, but there are also many…

  • Namdaemun Street Stalls in Fall

Is Namdaemun Market Actually Worth Visiting?

There are a lot of ‘must-visit’ places in Seoul, but most of them aren’t really all that great. If you are planning on shopping in Seoul, then you already know about Namdaemun. If you have looked at any lists of ‘must visit’ locations in Seoul, then you have also already heard about it. However, there are many tourist hot-spots that really aren’t as great as they are hyped up to be. On the other hand, a few of them really are must visits – places like Namsan for amazing and free views of the city, the Han River, and of course, Namdaemun Market (남대문시장). Even if you aren’t interested in shopping,…

  • Gwangjang market alleys

    Seoul’s Hidden Market

If you want to experience the markets of Seoul, but you are also someone who likes an adventure, then add Gwangjang Market to your bucket list right now! Gwangjang Market opened in 1905 and has over 5000 shops now, making it one of the biggest markets in Seoul. Not only this, but it is the oldest market remaining market in the city. Gwangjang is great if Namdaemun Market is too touristy for your tastes, or if Dongdaemun Market is too modernized. The market still has an element of the older Seoul. It feels more traditional and unique compared to the aforementioned markets. Gwangjang is famous for its jewelry market. If…

  • Hongdae Street Fashion 2018

    Hongdae Street Fashion 2018

Hongdae is a college town in Seoul, South Korea, but it’s really so much more than that. It’s a hub of culture for all of Seoul, especially those ages 12 to 35. The streets are filled with busking, street food, bars, clubs, and the most fashion-forward Seoulites around. On many occasions I’ve run into models, k-pop dancers, and even celebrities on the streets of Hongdae. That’s why ever since my Gangnam Street Style post last fall I’ve been dying to get to Hongdae to shoot some of the craziest and most gorgeous looks the area had to offer. So when Ethan asked me if I’d like to guest post on…

    Seoul’s Secret Highlights for Tourists

Namsan Tower, Lotte World, Han River and Gyeongbokgung, these are the places that every visitor to Seoul hears about. But what about Seoul’s secrets? The places that aren’t so close to the normal travelling path. Seoul is so big and houses so many cool, unique, and interesting places within its borders. Most people never get a chance to experience most of these areas though, even the locals. When you have such a large city it’s bound to happen. These places aren’t secret, but they are places that are generally overlooked by many people – especially tourists. These are my favourites of Seoul’s secrets. Kwangjang Market – A market with character.…

  • Ttukseom Resort Sunset

    The Best Sunset in Seoul

Recently I got the chance to visit Ttukseom Resort Station to watch the sunset. I must say, I wasn’t expecting anything special initially… It is the Han River, it is always picturesque! However, it was more than that. I would go as far as to say that it is the best sunset in Seoul. Ttukseom is a popular Han River location, and as such it has a lot of activities other than just watching the sunset. There are bikes and other rides for hire, food stalls, and often events. The night my girlfriend and I visited there was a Green Peace exhibition happening. This photo was taken from J-Bug (which…

    What is Wrong with Seoul

What is wrong with Seoul? I definitely think there is more that is ‘right’ in Seoul than wrong with it, but nowhere is perfect. I love Seoul and I love living here, however, there are some downsides that often come up in day to day life. There are also a few that usually stand out to foreigners as soon as they come here. As I mentioned above, Seoul is a great place and somewhere that everyone should visit at least once. It isn’t for everyone, but everyone should at least visit! I am writing this post because a lot of people have asked me to talk about a few downsides…

  • Studying

    Studying in Korea for University

When I thought about writing this article the first thought that crossed my mind was ‘how do I possibly answer everything in a short blog post?’. I’m still not sure how I’m going to manage that, but this particular question seems to be one of the most common questions I receive. So here I am, attempting to explain all of my experiences in a relatively short post. This is my answer to the question ‘what is it like studying in korea?’. As usual, my words aren’t definite. Most of what I say in this post won’t be facts, but rather my personal experiences. I can’t say how your experience will…
