    Bukhansan, Nature Within the City!

Forenote: This adventure took place over a year ago, but I want to share it because it was a unique and fun time. These photos were taken on that trip, on my phone and therefore aren’t the best quality. We went in winter, in summer Bukhansan is actually quite warm and nice. It definitely won’t have snow if you visit in any season other than winter. Seoul is known by many as a massive metropolis of a city, an uber-modern city that doesn’t have room, nor allow for nature. However, for anyone that has that opinion, it can be quite wrong. Seoul has lots of mountains and natural areas within…

    Naksan Mountain!

Following my recent adventures in Hyehwa (the northern area of Seoul) I have discovered a lot of new areas that I never knew about before. After visiting the Flower cafe on Wednesday, we decided to go for a walk to the nearby mountain Naksan. Naksan is located between Hyehwa and Hanseong university stations and provides a great break from the city, while still being very central and easy to access. The mountain is an easy 20-30 minute walk from Hyehwa station with a few steep areas, but otherwise pretty moderate walking conditions. Visiting in Spring is an amazing time as it means that all of the cherry blossoms will be out and…

Cotton Candy Drinks and Beautiful Flowers!

As with everything, there are a lot of totally mediocre and average cafes out there. Very few are surprising or even astounding, but today I went to one such cafe! Flower cafes are a common type of cafe in Seoul as there often isn’t as much nature outdoors that can be seen easily. There especially aren’t many places you can go to see wide varieties of flowers and plant-life anyway! Flower cafes have sprung up to try and fill this gap, creating places where you can go to enjoy a drink of tea or coffee and see (and smell) a variety of flowers and plants. While they are often a…

    Skateboarding the Streets of Seoul!

Since I moved to Seoul I’ve felt a bit lifeless at times. City life seemed to have gotten to me, and I felt the need to have some active and fun activity that I could do regularly. I thought for a while, and skateboarding seemed like the best balance of fun and function. In the end I decided to get a cruiser for travelling and I must say… I love it! I go out two or three nights a week, and just enjoy life without worries. This is my experience of skateboarding in Seoul! I’ve skated in New Zealand before, but that was always with normal skateboards, a cruiser was…

    Hanuel Park Adventure!

World Cup Stadium subway stop is famous in Seoul for being a great place for outdoor activities. It is surrounded by a plethora of different parks, each one unique in its own way. The parks range from lake parks, all the way to sky gardens. Hanuel garden is situated on top of a massive hill, that offers views of the entire city! I went to the sky park (English: Hanuel Garden, Korean: 하늘공원) with a friend who wanted some pictures. Honestly, I hadn’t even heard about Hanuel Park before. However, I can’t express how glad I am to know about it now! Especially with summer coming up, it is nearing the…

The Most Eerie Place in the World! Korean DMZ

Eerie. If I had to describe this place in one word, eerie is the word I would use. The first thing you notice is the deafening silence… Deafening except for the patriotic North Korean music coming across the border. This was my second time visiting the border, but these thoughts still struck me instantly as I stepped outside of the tour bus. I think that I could visit there twenty times and still have this feeling of amazement at how it feels. In the distance, you can see the town of Kaesong, a town where efforts to reunite the Koreas have been made in the past through a joint industrial…

    Exploring at 1am!

Exceptional boredom and a want to always be trying to do something useful drives me to do some interesting things at times. Tonight I had a totally random theory that I wanted to prove. This is one of my many adventures exploring Seoul! I have a ‘secret’ path from my home to university. While it may not really be secret, it is a place known by few, and used by even fewer. People are often scared to explore. I don’t know why, but they find their routine and they never change it. Maybe they think this road will lead to X destination, but they never test it. Especially if you…

  • 1 1140x634 - Namsan Tower, Seoul's Heart!

    Namsan Tower, Seoul’s Heart!

I wanted to use a pun relating to Namsan being the s(e)oul of Seoul. Sadly though, it seems a little old and cliched by now. I distinctly remember using it many, many times last year, so I thought better than to use it again. But if you ever need a pun about Seoul… Well, there are quite a few easy ones you can make! Seoul Tower (Namsan tower goes by many names, Namsan Tower, Seoul Tower and N Seoul Tower!) is a tower located on Namsan mountain north of the Han River in Seoul. The tower itself is over 200 metres tall and situated on top of the mountain. And…

    Spring Has Come to Korea!

It seems like it was barely a month ago that it was snowing… Oh wait, it did snow less than a month ago… Anyway, since then the weather has become rapidly warmer and now every day usually hovers around 20 degrees (Celsius!). This is probably the best time of the year as it won’t be long before it becomes too hot and everyone is begging for the cold weather to come back! But besides the weather, there are also some other beautiful things happening in Korea! Namely, the cherry blossom trees.   Spring brings all of the life back, all of the life that has been non-existent for the harsh…

  • Gangnam backstreets

    Gangnam’s Style!

Everyone has heard of Gangnam district (and if you say you haven’t you’re lying!) due to a certain song that is quite infamous. However, once you get there you forget about the song, Gangnam is cool in its own unique way… For other reasons! Gangnam is famous for being one of the most expensive places to live in Seoul. Many large companies have headquarters here, and it’s famous for shopping and activities (and the nightlife!). In Gangnam you can find pretty much any type of activity or restaurant that you could want, it’s all there! Gangnam Street The backstreets aren’t the skyscrapers that you expect to see here, but rather they are…
